Maybe it is career-ending if customers know that an MD has kids or a family. Which is why this information is kept a secret. Not talking about advertising about the MD kids, but simply admitting to it when confronted.
Let's call him Allen. He was on his late 20's when I first met him. Dark-skinned and on the twink side. For some reason he looks closer to 21 than to his real age of 28. A friend told me that people are suspecting that Allen has a kid. Initially, I asked him about it which he denied, and I believed him. He said people are making up stories about him because of his troubles with the other bar.
Not even 6 months after, I chanced upon him at a drug-store-cum-grocery near Ibabao. He was buying infant milk! I did not confront him. I actually have never confronted him ever since we parted ways. I had a strange feeling that the rumors are true. My connections with transportation office and the statistics office confirmed that not only Allen is already a father, but is married with 3 kids, including (then) 7-month old daughter.
More than hurt or anger, I felt guilt and sadness. Somebody had to lie to make a living. And I thought to myself, are we damaging his kid's life by what we are doing? Or are we actually helping his growing family, by supporting him?
I would have never known the answer to either of those 2 questions. But what I know, is that there are so many Allen's in the Cebu MD community. Fathers in hiding for fear that they would lose customers if they knew. Incidentally, from our Top 5 Fave Cebu Macho Dancers, more than 2 are already daddy's, including one very recently =).

Gay Bar --> Entertainment Bar
Not sure if you've heard but a number of Cebu Gay Bars have recently rebranded. They are now either hosto bars or male entertainment bars.
Godfather in Mandaue (beside Parkmall) is a hosto bar. Zeus Bar and NaughtyKa! Bar have both rebranded as Male Entertainment Bars. Also recently, Tarzan Boys would not allow male only visitors, that means males or gays without female company will be allowed inside.
This is a big move on the part of these establishments explicitly stating who their target audience is. With the emergence of Korean women clientele and the regular local female clients, we are seeing a shift on the male entertainment business.
This leaves Navigator and CheetahBar as all-welcoming entertainment bars. Will they follow suit? We will see.

Bias against women
It is very common in the Philippines to see an elderly man together with a younger female. In Cebu, that is even more evident. It is very common that it does not feel odd to look at them. It has become prevalent in Cebu malls and coffee shops that the couple do not even merit a second look.
The other way around is unfortunately still not the case. Matured women seen together with younger men are still given the second look, third look and even the stare. Regardless of whether they are seen in Manila, Davao, Ilocos even here in more accepting Cebu.
Judgmental stares, malicious whispers or sly laughters. Life is unfair.

Navigator Bar Cebu - Bruce
Definitely one of the sexiest models in any Cebu Gay Bar, Bruce is a big star at the Navigator Gay Bar. He is lean and sexy which is a proof that you do not need the bulging muscles to be sexy.
He is very in demand, which is probably why he often disappears. But when he appears, he is definitely worth it.

Cheetah Bar Cebu - Miko
Probably no need to introduce him, as Miko is one of the most popular and sought after models at Cheetah Bar Cebu. Very cute, and really young-looking. But don't be fooled, he has been in the business for quite a while and he sure knows how to do his job.
He is a great company as he is fun-loving and has stories to tell. Many who frequent the bar will tell you that Miko is their favorite. What he lacks in the muscles and body department he sure makes up with his personality.

Directions to NaughtyKa! Gay Bar Cebu
Finding NaughtyKa! Bar in Mandaue can be a little tricky. If you take a cab, of course it is easy. As most taxi drivers know where it is.
A. Del Rosario is a 1-way street so you cannot take the street if you are coming from AS Fortuna or H Cortes. So you have to circle around(towards Parkmall) then come back to Del Rosario. Also very few people call the street A. Del Rosario. It is more commonly known as Guizo.

Should we be happy that they had been taken out of the Gay Bars? Sources say that 2 of our beloved starlets have found "outside lives". That is probably the reason why I have not seen either. Interestingly, one of them is from Navigator and one is from Cheetah Bar. More interesting, one of them is via a Pinay and the other via a Koreana.
Honestly, I did not care for either of them (just being honest!), but now that they are no longer regulars, I kinda miss both of them.

Where is Zeus Gay Bar Cebu?
One of our readers was asking about the location of Zeus Gay Bar. So I was prompted to use technology to show where it is. Then realized...duh! Of course Googlemaps will not put in their maps. Well not yet. So while girlie bars would be in Googlemaps, Gay Bars are not yet there. Before we go great lengths with LGBT-discrimination in the internet, let us answer the question first...
Zeus Gay Bar is along AS Fortuna in Mandaue City, Cebu. Coming from Banilad it is on the left side of the road and before J Center. When you see Benedicto College, it is very close. In the google map screenshot below, it it where the "A" sign is. Actually that is for Nonki Japanese restaurant, the establishment right beside Zeus Gay Bar. But like what I told you gay bars in Cebu (Navigator, Cheetah, Tarzan) are not in googlemaps, but Nonki-Mandaue is the closest.
Coming from the Mactan Zeus Bar is a few feet away from the J Center Mall. After J Center, you will see the Zeus Bar Sign (and a picture of Zeus the god, but of course). If you are bringing a car, make a right on this small street after the mall. Then few feet away, to your left is the parking area. From the parking area, you avoid climbing the steep steps to the entrance of the bar.

Cebu Gay Bars in the News - Raid, Shooting
If you had been to any gay bar in Cebu, are you actually surprised that raids happen =). Come on, it is inevitable. While raids do not happen that often, they do happen. But yes the last time was a long time ago, back in 2008. But I do remember the repercussions of that raid. Not only was Poseidon affected, but all the other gay bars as well. Customers became afraid. Bars became afraid (to show what clients want to see). So really boring.
Prior to 2008, the last Big Cebu Gay Bar Raid was 2 years before. This was when NaughtyKa bar was still in Banilad.

The sad part, what happened in 2010 was not a raid. It was worse. A male dancer of Cheetah Bar was shot by a businessman who was said to be jealous of his live-in partner having an illicit affair with the victim. It was a little over 2 years ago, but many of us regulars in the bar scene will never forget Gabby. Nor will we ever forget to put love (and lust?) in its proper perspective.

CEBU, Philippines - A male dancer of a gay bar was shot dead last Friday night by a jealous businessman in barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City.
The victim was identified as Gabriel Dayondon alias Gabby, 23, a “macho” dancer of Cheetah Gay Bar and a resident of barangay Basak. The suspect, Arglo Jake Garces, 23, a businessman and resident of barangay Lamac, Consolacion, allegedly suspected that his live-in partner has an illicit affair with the victim.

10 Macho dancers in Lapu bar arrested

CEBU – Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group have arrested 10 male dancers of a gay bar in Lapu-Lapu City after they caught one of them in the act of showing his genitals to customers.
According to CIDG-7 assistant regional chief Ritchie Medardo Posadas, some of the agents posed as gay customers and witnessed Rod John Padal in the act of dancing nude while taking a shower onstage, and displaying his private parts to female and gay customers past midnight yesterday.
Posadas said an informer had tipped CIDG-7 regional director Guillermo Eleazar of the indecent activities going on inside the Poseidon Entertainment Gay Bar in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, which prompted Eleazar to send some of his men to verify the report.

Navigator Macho Dancers - Dilemma
There are the Kents and the JohnLloyds which us parishioners adore. They are starlets for a reason. And they are exceptions to the rule.
If you spend some time analyzing, more Macho Dancers fall in the middle. I call them the 50%. This is because 50% like them, 50% do not like them.
Let's take a look at these 2 Machos from Navigator's Bar. Both are good looking (on the tisoy, fair-skinned) side, both oozing with sex appeal. Both teasing and enticing. Yet, they are both "50%".
Which begs the question...What are the criteria for a Macho Dancer whom at least 90% of parishioners would love?

10 Macho Dancers I Met in Cebu - 4. The Hustler
Let's call him July Michael (JM). Around 4 years ago, I met, adored and loved him. He had the height, the good looks and the unique gentlemanly ways I have never seen in any bar-model here in Cebu or anywhere in the Philippines.
When we met, I learned that he is new in the Bar Circuit. "Modelling" to support his mother and his many siblings after successful but financially unrewarding stints as carpenter and waiter.
JM is gorgeous and has a to-die for body. But I actually fell for his ways. A gentleman who always know what to say what and when to say it. He also has a very unique way of making you feel important. Service deluxe. Opens the door for you, carry your bags, and knows what food I'd like to order. He has mastered "customer service" to an art (or science) form.
A year into the relationship we decided to go semi-exclusive. In the bar scene, this means he can continue to model and dance every night but he cannot entertain any other customers. This s-e set-up actually provided a convenient excuse for him. You see, we go out but never really go out. We always "hide", preferring to go to the most secluded places in and out of the city. If going in a hotel, I check-in while he "waits" in the restroom until our room is made. We do not go to SM or Ayala. He said, he cannot be seen in public because that is bad for his job. Actually made sense come to think of it. At this time, I was not sure whether I wanted to go exclusive.
2010 is when I discovered the real JM thru Facebook. He was not "new" in the bar circuit. He was a veteran. He started as an underwear model in Manila before gay bar hopping in Manila, Olongapo and Davao. By then he had been doing the gay bar circuit for almost 10 years. His modus had been the same, introduced himself as innocent and used his chivalrous ways to charm.
By then, I was already madly in love. So I was not ready to confront him...I did not want him to know that I already know who he was.
Until the day he asked me to go "exclusive". By then, I was paying for his apartment rent and giving him a sizeable monthly allowance. Going exclusive means he will stop working at the bar, me continuing to support him but now giving him the equivalent of what he makes in a week (or in a night). He will be dedicated to me.
I said no, and I actually confronted him about his background. He never admitted nor denied. He was enraged. I felt because I caught him surprised. I out-hustled him. The next day he was nowhere to be found. I tried to locate him for a few months as I learned he is still in Cebu. But his expertise in dancing and customer service matches his brilliance in hiding. I have not seen him since. I heard he has a new semi-exclusive relationship. Not sure if the customer knows the modus. Let me check if my request for friend in Facebook has been accepted...

April is the Anniversary month of Cheetah Bar Cebu. Every year, the bar launches a Mr. Cheetah Boy contest. This year was no exception.
This year Mr. Cheetah Boy is Raymond. A very-well deserved victory for the most loyal and dedicated Cheetah model. Friendly, outgoing, business-savvy, and honest-about-his-"new"-features Raymond really deserved the title this year.

Actually, Raymond had been modelling for a while now. In fact, he appeared in Fashion TV Cebu where he was oozing with broooonzy sex appeal. Didn't think he was that stocky before. But who cares, as long as you are stocky down there.
While there is no doubt in many minds that Cheetah Boy = Raymond, I still do not fancy him as a date =). Maybe just personal preference. I see him as a friend and nothing more. Below is a picture of Raymond in a patriotic gear together with the object of many fancies and fantasies, Kent.

10 Macho Dancers I Met in Cebu - 3. Junkie
A little frustrating to write this as it succumbs to the usual stereotype - a young Macho Dancer who is a drug junkie. The sadder part, we parishioners know it is true.
Let's call him JJ. Once a star, former varsity player from Mindanao - now banned in many Gay Bars in Cebu. I met him not longer than 5 years ago. He called himself an innocent promdi (from the province). Well, until I learned that he had been in a CDO bar for over a year already. Cebu turned out to be a bigger and more intimidating city for him.
First, JJ was seduced by the money. Since he is used to hard work back in Mindanao, he wanted to work and work and work - 7days a week, no holidays, and made sure he is booked everyday afterwork. Unlike the others who got hooked on drugs because of curiosity or simply "want to try", his was deliberate. He argued that he needed the drugs to stay awake and to keep him revitalized.
The first few months, he took drugs only when he needed it. So the more he took drugs, the more time he had for customers. The more customers he had, the more he needed drugs. So he became prey to the vicious cycle. And the same cycle cost him his career.
By year 3, he was on denial. He was hooked on drugs. He took drugs before work, after work, before servicing a customer, after servicing a customer. He was always high. His face grew older, eyes bloodshot. Face powder can no longer hide traces of being a junkie. Before, he only went out with female customers. Later he did not have any luxury to choose, who ever invited him became customers. Stories start to go around the bars, so the customers start to ignore him primarily from fear of being duped. Who wants a druggie date?
Then the inevitable happened. Rumors circulated the Gay Cebu scene that he started to steal from customers. First a watch, then a cellphone, then money, then wallet until last year when he tried to victimized someone with all of the above. JJ started to hop Gay Bars, until all the bars here in Cebu learned about his record. Then, a police report was filed against him, it turned out several of his victims filed almost simultaneous complaints.
Last I heard, he went back to Mindanao as a masseur. Then became an "online callboy". It seemed he continued to victimize customers as his numbers kept changing. Then I saw a posting in a forum from one of his victims: posted his picture and narrated a harrowing story of deception, hopeless addiction, violence and indiscriminate stealing. Then he disappeared.
Now, I do not know where JJ is. His MD friends do not know or would not say. One thing for sure, he can no longer work in any bar here in Cebu. Unless he change faces, it will be very difficult for him to come back to the scene.

Navigator may be the oldest gay bar in Cebu, but kudos to them for embracing the web in showing glimpses of their dancer's performances. I do not understand why the other gay bars are not following suit still choosing to keep "secret" the identity of their dancers and their performances.

Navigator may be the oldest gay bar in Cebu, but kudos to them for embracing the web in showing glimpses of their dancer's performances. I do not understand why the other gay bars are not following suit still choosing to keep "secret" the identity of their dancers and their performances.

10 Macho Dancers I Met in Cebu - 2. Dropout
#2. Dropout.
Sadly, for every 'Billy' Macho Dancer who successfully finishes college, there are 8 to 9 dancers who do not. The rate of success for a macho dancer finishing college is less than 10%. Well this is kinda obvious if you look at the ages of the current dancers. The interesting thing though is that majority of Cebu Macho Dancers (at least those I met) have reached college level, so they were already there.
This is inspired by "Drake".
Our night-time model/dancers-day-time students were mostly unsuccessful for several reasons. My guess, the number 1 reason is the promise of instant good money. The logic goes like this: you study to get a good-paying job in the future. But they already are earning really good money. So why continue studies? Especially when they start to realize that the minimum wage in Cebu City is 38P per hour. Their commission from one macho drink they can down in 3 minutes cost almost twice that.
Another reason (maybe) is still related to money. Obviously, the serious money in gay bars happen when the gay bar closes at 3am. The money from customer service after bar closes on average is greater than what a regular macho dancer earns from "dancing" between 9pm-3am. So, a 2-hour customer service > 6-hour bar dancing service and definitely > 8-hour minimum wage. So attending an Economics class from 7-8am starts to become a question of 'what for' if you have a Korean customer who texted and already waiting at Allure Hotel willing to pay extra.
Then the cycle continues until they start to be perennial absentees in class...eventually dropping out.
I guess no one really spoke to our Macho Dancer-college students about the future and the long-term. Everything becomes short-term, the now, and the easy money. So the value of college education may have diminished especially when they start to earn thousands a night.
Not judging...just citing the possible reasons why things that happened happened. But if we want to judge, maybe that would be for the macho dancer #3. Jerome - alleged drug addict and swindler...to be continued.

Cheetah Cebu Gay Bar - Jolo
Another really popular Cebu Model is Jolo of Cheetah Bar. I'd say he is one of those boys who look forever young. His hairstyle may have changed but still looks young.
He is slowly losing resemblance to his namesake actor - compare the photos from a couple years back (below) to his current. Still, he remains charming and forever young.

10 Macho Dancers I Met in Cebu - 1. The Student
I claim no expert with Macho Dancers whether in Cebu or elsewhere. I just have stories to share. The first time I met a Macho Dancer in Cebu was almost a decade ago, and it was the oddest of circumstances.
1) A nursing student who wants to finish college. Change nursing to criminology or accounting, and you know there are many of them. Students mostly on their 3rd or senior year in college, who lack funds. Well, nursing is an expensive course with all the labs and the practicum. A few years ago, I met "Billy", a 3rd-year standing nursing student in a good school in Cebu. He already stopped schooling for a year, and had to go back to a province in Mindanao to earn a living. He was not able to save enough money for college tuition - so he ended up at the Night University of Banilad.
He was a dedicated performer as well as a student. He is one of the few Macho Dancers I know who was able to finish college. Went to school in the morning worked late nights. Finish school within 2.5 years after I met him. I did offer Billy additional financial help. He did take it, but after working abroad for a year, he returned his "loan".
Billy is a good looking twink. He was focused on finishing school as he was everytime he disrobes. I have to be honest and share that I doubted if he was able to finish college. So I am just happy to be wrong. To this day, I do not know how he can down 20 macho drinks leave work at 3am, then come to class 5 hours after. Sheer determination maybe.

Cheetah Gay Bar Cebu - Raymond
Meet Raymond. One of the most popular "starlets" at Cheetah Gay Bar. I'd call him the star performer. He gives all when he performers.
He might as well be given the model employee award. He is staunch promoter of Cheetah Bar. And seems a very dedicated employee at Cheetah Bar. Raymond is highly likeable - very friendly, jolly to be around.
The problem, Raymond is very friendly. I know it should not be a problem especially with this kind of business. But his personality can endear you like a friend. Many of us loyal parishioners are actually friends with him. Again nothing wrong. But for those who want more than friendship in the bar...that could be a problem.
Still if you want to be entertained by way of 110% dance performance - you have to see Raymond perform.

Navigator Gay Bar Cebu - Jack
If JohnLloyd is Navigator's star, Jack is Navigator's Ultimate Performer. He is the resident pole dancer, and a few of his videos had been uploaded to YouTube. You have to see him perform.
Another thing about Jack, women fight over him. I know it is not unusual, but the fighting over him is turning out to be really ugly. Can't give more details than that. But I guess you have to go to Navigator's Gay Bar for you to see what I am talking about.
Navigator's Gay Bar Cebu (or Navi) is located along A. Del Rosario in Guizo, Mandaue City, Cebu. It is walking distance from Jollibee. You would not have a problem asking a cab driver to take you there - this is the oldest Gay Bar in Cebu, they know it.

Trouble in South Korea felt in Cebu Gay bars?
This morning I was alarmed with the global page headline of Philippine Daily Inquirer, apparently South Korea is feeling the stress with the looming nuclear arms test of neighbor North Korea. Apparently tests are scheduled mid-April.
My initial thought? What will happen to the gay bars in Cebu? hahaha. I know...Cebu is always first in my mind =). Honestly, if there is trouble in Korea will it have impact to the gay bars here?
Maybe, if Koreans fear for their lives, they will start migrating to Cebu. So the gay bar scene here will fluorish even more!
However, if Koreans go far (they have all the money) say to the US or Europe, what will happen to Cheetah and Navi? Can 7 gay bars in Cebu survive without Koreans? 5 years ago there were only gay bars in Cebu. When the Koreans came, Macho Dancers (and bar girls, so I heard) thrive.
We will find out very soon.

Navigator Cebu Gay Bar Star - JohnLloyd
A friend sent me pictures of the newest Navigator Hearthrob. His name is JohnLloyd.
I just realized that I met him before. The JohnLloyd in skivvies is very different from the regular JohnLloyd - a bespectacled young man you would mistake for a student or a bank employee. I suddenly remembered meeting him at a very weird chance encounter.
He has the complete package every Koreana visitor is looking for: tall, dark, handsome, abs and bulge. So hurry now!

Night Cruising
I was really excited to see a former superstar in action after several years(must be 2.5 years) at Cheetah. So disappointed that he was not there. I heard that he has been a perennial absentee. (So need help if anyone had a sighting of him - see below post on how he looks like now).
So we decided to go to Naughty Ka. (More details in a next post). I started taking pictures outside for this blog. And not a few seconds after got reprimanded by security. I was like? Is this a joke? You have a friendster account a Youtube channel, and I cannot take pictures?
I was told I needed to speak to management. Of course I would not. hahaha. So I stopped taking pictures. Well at least, that they cannot see =).
Later...

I also realized that if he was around 27-28 years old when he was burning the gay bar scene then. Shucks how old is he now. Must be 36! And this made me real sad. A superstar during your mid-20s, probably losing everything then still dancing at this age. I mean he does not look 36 at all, but I imagine how much money he has made all the years, only to lose it so he's back.

Gay Bar Scene in Cebu
The Gay Bar Scene in Cebu is very much alive. Well, I am not just sure whether it is "Gay", given majority of customers are women. Let's say the Macho Dancer scene in Cebu is very much alive =).
5-6 years ago, there were but 2-3 gay bars here. It must be a lucrative business given now we have ~7. Raids are getting less and less in the past years, which contributed to its proliferation here. One raid could have far-fetching impact not only the bar raided but on the others as well.
Really got inspired by comments on http://www.discreetmagazine.blogspot.com/, so I dediced to also share stories so we all learn from each other's experiences. I had been in the scene for a long time in Cebu. Have seen ups and downs. Have reached the highest highs but also the lowest lowest in the gay bars, and in the company of Cebu Macho Dancers.
Here are some top of mind items I wanted to share
1) For first timers in Cebu gay bars, do not be surprised to see mostly women here. One weeknight, there were 99% women and it is becoming very common. In fact, some gay bars would not allow unaccompanied men inside the bar. If you are gay and alone, sorry you cannot enter the bar. Ironic, isn't it?A gay man cannot enter a gay bar alone. This is Tarzan Boy so I was told.
There is no way a gay bar's name will be changed to girl's bar though even if very few gays go. For sure you know why. ; ).
2) Yes Koreans abound here. But they are everywhere anyway. If they have their own salon, own church, own supermarket, own internet cafe. It should actually be not a surprise to see lots of them here. My guess is that majority of them are tourists, here in Cebu for a week or 2. But I also saw regulars, so they must live here already.
They have lots of cash. The record I personally saw was 25,000. Yes, a Korean lady (probably early 50's) placing 25 pieces of 1,000 bills in Navigator's superstar undies. This was 3-4 years ago. So don't be surprised to see them give a thousand or 5k to a guy they fancy.
3) The Macho Dancers are after money. Come on, if they are after love or company they would go somewhere else. So let us be realistic. I asked a MD who is the 3rd star, if he aspires to be the SUPERSTAR. He said, only because that would bring more money. So no, majority of them do not see this as a career where they get promoted. This is temporary. The only common thing, is that they want to get promoted so they get extra exposure and thus potentially more money.
4) Who are the superstars in each Bar?
Well, considering the lifespan of their "careers" in each bar, difficult to tell. Remember, that this work is fleeting and most especially for the star dancers. Sometimes the superstar does not even last 3 months in a bar. They are the priority to be booked full-time. One time, I remember the superstar of Navi who was from Manila got booked in 2 weeks. So he was gone, before he could serve us customers ; (.
But yes there were Raymond and Kent from Cheetah, and starlets Raven and Jolo also from Cheetah. Jaspher from NK, starlet Christian. Bruce from Navigator. PG from Tarzan Boy. Some of them are still there or could just be in another bar.
5) Why the anonymity, code names and name changes from the dancers?
The code names are quite obvious, to protect their privacy. So Gilson would be Kent, and Jerson would be Iver. The name changes, I initially did not understand. Unless you are the superstar MD, they should be sticking to their names.
Also, majority of the gay bars protect the identity of their dancers. Shouldn't they be promoting them? this is a popularity contest, also right?
This makes the marketing strategy for Naughty Ka Bar really interesting. Instead of hiding their dancers, like the other bars, Naughty Ka has its own Friendster account and a YouTube channel that introduces their dancers. So everyone knows who they have. Will other bars follow suit? What would be the impact of this to the families of the dancers? Having their faces and videos splattered across the web for years to come? I guess this is the marketing dilemma of gay bars.
But we have to remember that the private lives of macho dancers may include prior criminal charges, marital status or even kids. So this is probably why privacy and secrecy is tightly upheld. I know of several MDs who already have kids, one of them with 3 non-school age yet. So this could be damaging for their jobs.
6) All About the Money
The money from the bars are OK but not that significant come to think of it. Let's break them down
- A dance number at a bar cost 300 for our MD. Max, they have 2 a night which brings it to 600.
- Superstars do not "Area". For the common MD, it could be 500 on a lucky night maybe 200 on a regular day.
- From the macho drinks, MDs get 60 pesos. Which explains why they try to down their drink that quickly. One of my favorite MDs down 22 in one night! and only while we were together. He may have drank more in other tables. On the average, say 10 drinks a night x 60 = 600.
- So not even a 1,000 a night for the average MD.
On a bad rainy night and without customers, of course practically nothing.
So it will be the tips, the takehome and the sponsors that would spell the difference.
7. Gay/Girlfriends and Sponsors
One of the ultimate goals of macho dancers is to get a sponsor. Someone who would give them cashflow albeit in return for an exclusive relationship. Admittedly, this is where the big money comes from.
One of my favorite MDs who became a friend told me about a very rich Korean lady he is servicing (his term, not mine!). According to him, the lady was very rich sometimes gambling 1M pesos a night. So to no surprise, he was easily given 100,000pesos as a welcome gift. When it was gone after a few days, he was given a Motorbike, and then another 100,000 pesos. Then as a goodbye gift, how about a brand new car!
There are MD-sponsor relationship that last a long time. One couple I know have been together for over 5 years (I know not that long yet, but in these circles that is already ancient). Their age gap is ~13-14 years, again very small compared to many in these circle. She a highly influential member of the Cebu economy and him a former superstar MD. There are complications in their relationship even if the lady is separated. This includes kids, wanting to have kids, and business slowdown.
7. Each MD has their own style. And they change it depending on the customers. One day I was surprised that my fave MD already has his own Big Bike. So I asked. Apparently, this was a gift from a Swiss Lady. Some 50+ French speaking grandma. Interestingly, they did not even have intimate contact. Well according to MD.
How'd he do it, I asked. He said - strategy. The elderly women most of them do not really want that. They wanted to feel special and that's what he gave. Amazing!
So if they can get a big bike from a lady, I just thought about what else can they get from gay customers? or maybe the younger inexperienced women (who by the way the population is starting to increase in bars)

They have lots of cash. The record I personally saw was 25,000. Yes, a Korean lady (probably early 50's) placing 25 pieces of 1,000 bills in Navigator's superstar undies. This was 3-4 years ago. So don't be surprised to see them give a thousand or 5k to a guy they fancy.
3) The Macho Dancers are after money. Come on, if they are after love or company they would go somewhere else. So let us be realistic. I asked a MD who is the 3rd star, if he aspires to be the SUPERSTAR. He said, only because that would bring more money. So no, majority of them do not see this as a career where they get promoted. This is temporary. The only common thing, is that they want to get promoted so they get extra exposure and thus potentially more money.
4) Who are the superstars in each Bar?
Well, considering the lifespan of their "careers" in each bar, difficult to tell. Remember, that this work is fleeting and most especially for the star dancers. Sometimes the superstar does not even last 3 months in a bar. They are the priority to be booked full-time. One time, I remember the superstar of Navi who was from Manila got booked in 2 weeks. So he was gone, before he could serve us customers ; (.
But yes there were Raymond and Kent from Cheetah, and starlets Raven and Jolo also from Cheetah. Jaspher from NK, starlet Christian. Bruce from Navigator. PG from Tarzan Boy. Some of them are still there or could just be in another bar.
5) Why the anonymity, code names and name changes from the dancers?
The code names are quite obvious, to protect their privacy. So Gilson would be Kent, and Jerson would be Iver. The name changes, I initially did not understand. Unless you are the superstar MD, they should be sticking to their names.
Also, majority of the gay bars protect the identity of their dancers. Shouldn't they be promoting them? this is a popularity contest, also right?
This makes the marketing strategy for Naughty Ka Bar really interesting. Instead of hiding their dancers, like the other bars, Naughty Ka has its own Friendster account and a YouTube channel that introduces their dancers. So everyone knows who they have. Will other bars follow suit? What would be the impact of this to the families of the dancers? Having their faces and videos splattered across the web for years to come? I guess this is the marketing dilemma of gay bars.
But we have to remember that the private lives of macho dancers may include prior criminal charges, marital status or even kids. So this is probably why privacy and secrecy is tightly upheld. I know of several MDs who already have kids, one of them with 3 non-school age yet. So this could be damaging for their jobs.
6) All About the Money
The money from the bars are OK but not that significant come to think of it. Let's break them down
- A dance number at a bar cost 300 for our MD. Max, they have 2 a night which brings it to 600.
- Superstars do not "Area". For the common MD, it could be 500 on a lucky night maybe 200 on a regular day.
- From the macho drinks, MDs get 60 pesos. Which explains why they try to down their drink that quickly. One of my favorite MDs down 22 in one night! and only while we were together. He may have drank more in other tables. On the average, say 10 drinks a night x 60 = 600.
- So not even a 1,000 a night for the average MD.
On a bad rainy night and without customers, of course practically nothing.
So it will be the tips, the takehome and the sponsors that would spell the difference.
7. Gay/Girlfriends and Sponsors
One of the ultimate goals of macho dancers is to get a sponsor. Someone who would give them cashflow albeit in return for an exclusive relationship. Admittedly, this is where the big money comes from.
One of my favorite MDs who became a friend told me about a very rich Korean lady he is servicing (his term, not mine!). According to him, the lady was very rich sometimes gambling 1M pesos a night. So to no surprise, he was easily given 100,000pesos as a welcome gift. When it was gone after a few days, he was given a Motorbike, and then another 100,000 pesos. Then as a goodbye gift, how about a brand new car!
There are MD-sponsor relationship that last a long time. One couple I know have been together for over 5 years (I know not that long yet, but in these circles that is already ancient). Their age gap is ~13-14 years, again very small compared to many in these circle. She a highly influential member of the Cebu economy and him a former superstar MD. There are complications in their relationship even if the lady is separated. This includes kids, wanting to have kids, and business slowdown.
7. Each MD has their own style. And they change it depending on the customers. One day I was surprised that my fave MD already has his own Big Bike. So I asked. Apparently, this was a gift from a Swiss Lady. Some 50+ French speaking grandma. Interestingly, they did not even have intimate contact. Well according to MD.
How'd he do it, I asked. He said - strategy. The elderly women most of them do not really want that. They wanted to feel special and that's what he gave. Amazing!
So if they can get a big bike from a lady, I just thought about what else can they get from gay customers? or maybe the younger inexperienced women (who by the way the population is starting to increase in bars)
Cheetah Gay Bar Cebu Star - Kent
Because several of the former star dancers departed from the bar by way of Korean women, the star quality at Cheetah has definitely diminished.

Couple of really interesting-looking guys. But the rest? hmmm.
Cheetah Boys suffered from one bad show to another in January and February. It seems everyone was lazy. Probably because they lost several of their stars. I heard a popular starlet dancer "na-take-home" by a rich korean lady.
Looks like Cheetah Bar is coming back with a fight this March. Unlike Naughty Ka, who uses the web to introduce their dancers, it seems Cheetah is on the more discrete path. You would not see dancer names anywhere.
According to friends, the usual career path for dancers would be Tarzan Boy --> Navigator --> Cheetah. or simply Navigator --> Cheetah. Along these path, Macho Dancers could change names. While name in Showbiz is sacredly kept, very different in the gaybar scene. So sometimes it is difficult to track who is Kent, Iber, Raven, Cloud, Jolo. You really have to be in the scene to know.
What works for Cheetah Bar, they do not have an entrance fee. Unlike say in Navigator that charges for door fee. So at Cheetah, you can come in look around. If you don't like what you see then leave. The lack of entrance fee is compensated by the prices of the drinks, relatively higher compared to others.

Outside Metro Manila, Cebu has the most Gay Bars. But really, the gay bars in Cebu might as well be renamed Girl Bar (as Way Blima suggested) or Korean Bar (as many who frequent the bars could tell). Interestingly, around 80% of "loyal parishioners" are female. I heard the same thing is happening in Manila, especially with Korean women becoming very active in the scene.
Of the three major cities in Cebu, Cebu City is the most strict. The Cebu Anti-Indecency Board (CAIB) strictly upholds morality in the region's capital city. Even tabloid magazines that are prevalent in Manila such as Hataw, Remate etc. So you would not expect ATW (all the way) performances in any bar in Cebu City.
Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City are less strict. Especially on big nights, showers, areas, and other forms of ATWs abound (milk, fruits, vegetables, salakot etc) almost on a nightly basis.
Some gay bars have become stable, like Navigator for example which has been in the same place for a very long time. But there had been gay bars that did not last a year, take the case of Mystery Man at Mandaue for example. Closed without having celebrated their anniversary. The place is now Naughty Ka.
Some bars have also relocated, maybe to a bigger place, or maybe outside the very strict Cebu City. And of course every now and then a new bar opens.

Their marketing spiel is that they have 15 dancers from Manila this March.
Cheetah Boys
Right across Gaisano Country Mall and interestingly beside University of Cebu Banilad Campus. Difficult to miss, as they have a sign (name and the cheetah animal of course). How their dancers can go all the way being in Cebu City beats me.
Along Gov. Cuenco Ave. it is literally across Country Mall. Cheetah Bar is at the end. You would pass by a Medical Clinic, a Korean Restaurant and KTV and an internet Cafe.
Naughty Ka Restobar
A Del Rosario in Guizo. For those who remember this is the location of the short-lived Mystery Man. Another interesting thing is that they are most web-savvy among the Cebu bars. They have YouTube videos that practically introduce their dancers.
A. Del Rosario is a 1-way street so you cannot the street if you are coming from AS Fortuna or H Cortes. So you have to circle around and take A. Del Rosario from the mercado (Public Market). But if you take a cab, they know how to take you there.
The Navigator
Cabahug Road, Mandaue City. Just 5 minutes away from Jollibee.
This is one of the oldest bars in Cebu and probably has the most stories to tell. You can say it is a discreet location, but not really difficult to find. Remember that this is in Mandaue Ibabao.
LAPU-LAPU CITY
Tarzan Boy
Along Quezon National Highway, Lapu-Lapu City. Really easy to find. Only, the bar is at the 2nd floor. I am not sure if any other gay bars in the Philippines are only on the 2nd floor as opposed to say 1st and 2nd floors. This month of May, you will see the bright colorful decor.

Along Quezon National Highway. Just across Gaisano Mactan.
In Cebu, taxi drivers know all these locations. Many prefer to go the bars by cab instead of bringing their cars, for privacy maybe? That's probably why cab the bars are common with taxi drivers.
